April Lockhart

April Lockhart (born July 4 April, 1995) began her musical journey in the 7th grade in which she began guitar and piano classes. When April was 12 when she wrote her first single, Different. The year she turned 14 was when she was devoted for a long period of time in creating song concepts and practicing the music she was playing. The songwriting began along with her dad at home in NY and LA soon after. April featured other topics in her song"Take my Hand. These topics included topics for her friends who dealt with issues such as peer pressure and disabilities, or even teenage suicidal thoughts. Lockhart is a lifestyle and beauty influencer with an ever-growing number of followers. She collaborates with the renowned brand Ilia together, in addition to being a lifestyle expert. She was born without her left hand and that is part of who she is--but that's not the entire story. Lockhart's Twitter profile does not ignore her being disabled however, it doesn't make a point of it. What message is it sending? The message is that we are more than our physical selves. The identities we have are complex and include a myriad of dimensions. Lockhart talks through video from Nashville. "I do not wish for it to dictate my existence. I'm not looking to be merely recognized as an expert in disabilities. But it does not affect my everyday routine. I continue to do the normal things and I've adapted to my disability. This is also part of my life, and I think it should be discussed. Lockhart's self-acceptance journey will be one that lasts an entire lifetime. She is an inspiration with regard to this. She admits that she's been through phases with her body, at times, being unsure about wearing particular types of clothes which showed how much of her body. She now wears any outfit she wishes and shares pictures on Facebook in awe. To her, self-love was always a lengthy process. It's a journey, I'm not sure you'll ever get there. It's important to surround yourself with those who are able to know you.
